The solution to creating extra space on a restricted site at Heath Mount Primary School was to infill an area at lower level between the existing school building and the higher school playground.
The scheme created a new arts and crafts room with a kiln for pottery and audio/visual studios together with offices and toilets.
A small courtyard was created to introduce light and air into the building. A playful approach in terms of fenestration and colour was taken to the small amount of external elevationthat is visible from the main entrance.
